They've had very long and (judging from their condition) adventurous lives. They ended up here at Gidleigh Farm because two of the riders from Gidleigh decided to attend the local horse auction, and these fine old horses needed to be rescued from the knacker.
They were trucked back to the farm, and Clive and Philippa said, "Are you mad?!!!" Then they said, "Oh, the poor things!" and went right to caring for them.
They were used to some of their riders bringing home auction horses. In fact, Lionheart and Maeve were two of their rescues.
So Tugboat and Nightwatch settled in. They liked their stable, and everyone at the farm just spoiled them.
However, Tugboat could not forget the land of his youth, and told the rest of the horses lots of tales of days of old.
