Moondance in Kentucky
This is Moondance and his manager, Jessica, at the Kentucky Horse Park.
These cute foals are cavorting about in front of the main entrance to the Kentucky Horse Park. Moondance thought he'd look good posed next to them, so we set up a photo op. We hope his fan club appreciates our efforts!

Julip horse family
Happy family together at last!
Clive waited a long time for his wife and daughter to show up! Clive is riding Rosemund, JoAnn is riding Bumblebee and little Janie rode her pony, Kelpie, all the way from Cornwall just for the reunion!
I hope to soon have photos up of all of my Julip horses, including the new Appaloosa mare and foal.

Still need a reason...
to see this movie? I am not kidding! This movie really is all I have been blathering on about! So go and buy yourself a ticket and some popcorn and have a marvelous time.
And then you can tell me your opinions on the character of Captain Jack Sparrow! You really can't give an honest opinion without actually seeing the film, right?
Captain Jack Sparrow rewls, Dewd!

Barbossa's ring
Barbossa may have been evil, but he sure had a spiffy ring!
A copy of his very spiffy ring is currently listed on eBay in the movie memoribilia section...unfortunately, far too expensive for my pocketbook! I can only hope that the maus haus will release some merchandise that ties into this movie...maybe in time for the holiday release of POTC on DVD!!!
(I vote for them to release copies of both Jack's and Barbossa's rings! If you were really looking closely, you will see Johnny Depp wearing the same ring in POTC as he did in Sleepy Hollow...)

Whisper's Surprise!
I awoke one morning to find this little guy cavorting next to his proud mother, Whisper. What a surprise!
Whisper's not saying who the fine stallion is that sired this little guy, but he looks suspiciously like someone she's had a crush on ever since she arrived at my stable! Looks like she made a little side trip on her way over from Devon!

Whisper the Julip
Whisper the Julip "Arab Champion" horse models the nifty native costume created by Amanda Massara!
Whisper is so fond of this costume that she wears it nearly all the time! She says "Hi!" to everyone at Havillands Stable, and especially her fave love interest, Fitzwood, himself a dashing Julip "Arab Champion."

Obi-Wan and Amidala
AKA Ryan and Danielle, at Potterfest in front of the great mural of Every-Flavour Beans flavours, made by local kids.
See, I told you she didn't marry Darth!!!

More from Potterfest
Despite the long lines for "Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans" at the candy shop, we were still in good form even though it was nearing 11 p.m. at this point!
In this photo, we are thinking about heading over to Ollivander's to check out their supply of wands. Or maybe to the Quidditch field to cheer on the local team, who were having an exhibition match that night. Or maybe we were going to seek out some nightlife at the Leaky Cauldron...the possibilites were endless! (Actually, it all amounted to a scavenger hunt and a costume contest. Sigh. No flying broomsticks for the likes of us!)

Local Hogwarts fans
Local witch Jessica and wizard Brian attended the Harry Potter night with these Hogwarts students, Amanda and Kim. Their broomsticks were in the repair shop, so their muggle mom, Mary, drove them in a minivan!
Mary is no ordinary muggle, though. She is a professional football player, so she'll knock you flat if you make any comments about Jessica or Brian's strange attire!

Potter Mania
In June, we had Pottermania sweep the county as 3,000 people show up for the night of fun before the release of the fifth Harry Potter book.
The organizers and participants were quite surprised, they expected only a few hundred people to show up! Almost all of the downtown businesses took part in the festivities, even changing their names for the evening to match the name of a business mentioned in the Potter books. Here we see the crowds gathering in front of "Flourish and Blotts." (In the muggle universe, that's Aria Booksellers, the instigators of this fun evening of frolic!)

Banners in the wind
These banners were flying in Penzance this summer during the midsummer holiday. Due to technical difficulties, this is all I have to show for today's episode of wasmi.
We had an interesting time during the power outage. Fortunately, everything is back up and running this week. Our house was an oasis of energy during the blackout, being located in an small area that was relatively unaffected by the problem. However, all surrounding areas were affected, so everyone was driving into our small town to shop and get gasoline. Some gas stations actually ran out of gas!
Almost everybody (except energy company employees) had to take Friday off of work, including myself, as I work in an area affected by the blackout.
I like the banner photograph, it reminds me of all that wind power we could be harnessing so that we don't need to rely on the power company! Plus, it's quite a pretty picture.

The Princess and the Jeep
Actually, the Jeep is also named Princess...
Princess the Jeep and I have gone on many adventures together, including horse shows, weddings and more. In this photo, we are returning from the wonderful wedding reception of Master Obi-Wan and Queen Amidala. (And you thought she married Darth!)
We have also been to see "Pirates of the Caribbean" together, though I had to leave Princess the Jeep outside in the parking lot during the show. It turns out they don't make theatre seats large enough for SUVs.

Pie ratz roam these waters

These pirates are all I have to offer today. (But I'm not complaining!)
There I was, all set to add to my web log some photos I had taken with my relatively newly-aquired digital camera...and I get an error message that the photos won't download. I suspect that the photos might be lost for all time. Sniff! The batteries appear to be dead, too. Sigh. No wonder this thing was so cheap!
But I can't go wrong with adding such a nifty pie rat photo to my weblog, either! This photo is great for copying the costumes at Halloween. I think it should be mandatory that all guys dress like Will and Jack. If I were a queen instead of a princess, that would be my Royal Decree!

Tree of Shadows

The Renaissance Festival approacheth...probably without this band!
Be very sorry you missed them a couple of years back. Fortunately, I pulled out me purse and snagged meself one o' their CDs on their last day at the Fest. It's the only memory that remains of their most captivating performances. They had at least two other memorable songs that didn't make it onto the CD, I grieve that I might not ever hear them again.
Besides knowing how to play their instruments, these guys were great songwriters and showmen and seemed to really enjoy performing. The ol' Guinness Pub just isn't the same without 'em.

Last call for Pirates!

According to my source, although the POTC movie is still doing very well at the box office, some theatres in the U.S. are going to start rotating it out as early as next week.
So commandeer yourself a seat at the local theatre, mate, and enjoy Captain Jack's adventures with chums Will and Elizabeth as they battle to defeat the dastardly evil Barbossa...before the Black Pearl sails off forever without ye!

My younger days
This is me on my ninth birthday. I am showing off my new birthday outfit and the Breyer classic Swaps, which was one of my gifts that year.
As the Breyer company released smaller horses, I started receiving smaller horses as gifts instead of the traditional sized ones (they were cheaper - hey, my parents were smart!) I used to save up my allowance and any money I got to buy the traditional-sized ones, as well as the much smaller stablemates.
I still collect lots of the old mold, old plastic stablemates, and I treasure my old classic-scale horses. I still collect a few traditional-sized models, but I now appreciate the value of a spacious home, so I limit myself to just a few and try to compensate when I add to my collection by trading, selling or giving away some so that I don't become overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of them.

Holy Trinity Church

Brian and I were lucky to be able to visit the tiny village of Gidleigh in Dartmoor. The village was the home of some of my ancestors.
The village is very small, and difficult to find, as one has to meander through very winding, narrow, hilly roads in order to locate it. All that we could find there was Holy Trinity Church, an ancient house, and the ruins of the small Gidleigh Castle keep.
Some very old tombstones dating from the 1700's were actually built into the exterior wall of the church. Our guide, Lawrie Prideaux (we highly recommend his Pixie Tours), had explained that most memorial markers of earlier eras had been made out of wood, and had thus deteriorated over time.
The church itself actually dates to the 12th century.

Flora Day in Helston

Brian and I visited Helston in Cornwall on May 8 for their Flora Day celebration!
This is one of the oldest continuously celebrated May Day festivals in England, according to the booklet I bought while we were there. It is a very beautiful city, and to see it all garlanded in flowers for the occasion made it even more so!
Here, we are standing in one of the gateways through which the Flora Day dancers emerge during their travels through the city. The house behind us is owned by the National Trust.

My best friend was Smokie!

This is Smokie and me a few years later. I took him to college with me, and during that time, he stayed at this nice farm.
There were trails to ride down, but not nearly as much open space as we had been used to. In my first years of riding Smokie, we had both been spoiled by the vast network of farmer's fields and woods that we had been able to explore.

A very old friend!

This is Smokie, my very first horse. In this picture, he has just arrived and I am using very oversized western tack that I borrowed from my riding instructor.
This is an historical photo! It is from the depths of time, way, way back when I was young!
The photo is from July, 1982. I did not normally ride Smokie western, but I didn't have any tack, yet, and had to borrow some. Smokie was always extremely well-behaved and didn't mind wearing any type of tack. He also didn't mind being ridden bareback, with only a halter and lead rope to guide him. He was the perfect horse!
In the photo, he has a very long "bridle path" which was shaved by his previous owner so that they could have a show career. That was normal for an Arabian in the American shows at the time. The first thing I did was let his mane grow out.
Smokie was eight years old in the photo, and I was fifteen.

Moondance meets Man O' War

Moondance the "Horse of the Year" Julip had other adventures in Kentucky besides dining at McDonalds!
He also visited the memorial to racing legend Man O' War, which was located just outside the main gates to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. This photo, as well as the McDonalds photo, were taken by Moondance's friend and chauffeur on his Kentucky excursion, Kathleen. Thanks, Kathleen!

Not a hoax!

A crop circle investigator has declared our local crop circles to be the genuine article!
According to Jeffrey Wilson, an expert in the study of crop circles, the local crop circles (measuring 51 ft, 10 ft, and 8 ft in diameter) which appeared in a farmer's wheat field are the result of a naturally-occurring phenomenon, not a prank.
According to Wilson, the electricity associated with crop circles generates heat and that heat turns the moisture in the crop stems to steam. The steam then blows out holes in the stems.
Wilson notes that crop circles are often found near high voltage lines.

Laugh it up, Pirates!

...all the way to the bank!
I'm sure that my husband and my friends find it amusing that I have gone to see this movie so many times, but I am still enjoying it enough to want to see it again! The dialogue is very entertaining, and so are the antics of Captain Sparrow and the enunciations of the evil Barbossa. Definitely my five star movie of the summer!
Wait through all of the movie credits and you will be treated to a short epilogue involving the monkey. Remember, "monkeys are funny!"

How British am I?

How British are you?
this quiz was made by alanna
The results speak for themselves!
I will say that while the quiz was not particularly difficult, it was rather amusing. Although I will admit a preference for St. Piran's flag over the Union Jack after our successful Cornish visit, my forebears came from Devon, so there is a lot of British blood in my veins.
Thanks to Danielle for providing the link to the British quiz!
