Master Obi-Wan Saves the Day!

It took the genius of a Jedi to restore the Wasmi-verse!

All of a sudden, there I was, unable to blog to my heart's content. The Wasmi-verse was broken! Non-functional! Sob!!!
As if the Jedi Masters don't already have enough to do, what with continually saving the universe from the Dark Side, I had to go and request their services to restore my insignificant little blog!
At least it serves to occasionally amuse them!
Thank you, Master Obi-Wan!

Shipshewana

stonesale2004.jpg

Kathleen found these shelves full of horsies at the Stone factory in Shipshewana during Mayfest this year.

Kathleen reports that she was able to bring home many rare and beautiful Stone horses to add to her collection. She was one of the first ones in line at the sale, and was able to pick out what she liked.
Last July, the Stones had a similar sale down in Kentucky, and I was able to buy a few inexpensive "scratch and dent" or overstock models for my collection. It was fun! I couldn't afford any of the true test colors, but when I got back to the hotel room, I found that two of the OFs that I had picked out were actually labelled "factory test," which probably meant that they had been used as guides for the painters at the factory (they were identical to their regular run counterparts.)
Kathleen was actually able to add a few test colors to her collection at the Shipshewana sale. (She always did have a bigger budget than I did!!!) She reports especially liking a buckskin Pebbles model and a green Performance Horse.

Sad world news

I am increasingly saddened by the news of people being tortured, humiliated and killed all over the world.

This is no way to act towards fellow creatures. The deity I believe in would never condone such horrors. I would rather write about naive and innocent collectibles than have to write about such topics. Unfortunately, humankind has not advanced far enough to act with decency towards each other, so we continue to hear about people committing atrocities upon fellow humans and other creatures.
Just stop it, right now. Everybody stop committing these horrible acts. This means everybody!
I am especially ashamed to hear about torture, humiliations, and deaths committed by Americans against unarmed prisoners. This is just as heinous as anyone else doing it! Is doing it to other people going to make you feel better about some people having done it to your people???
I pray that humankind will mature enough to grow away from these negative behaviours.

Wayland the Smithy

blacksmith.JPG

Here is a photo of Wayland, the Britains blacksmith that arrived recently at the Binbak stable.

The photo is by his previous "employer." He came with a horse and an anvil. I don't think either of them was made by Britains, but Wayland was. He's worked hard for a long time! As you can see, he worked so hard that he wore off the end of his hammer!
All of them have settled into their new home very happily. (Thanks to Manda for the Wayland name suggestion!)

Van Helsing

Van Helsing opens in theaters in the US on Friday, May 7!

Despite almost universally horrid reviews of this upcoming movie, I am really looking forward to seeing it. Creepy, gothic settings and vampires are usually enough to convince me to watch a movie. Especially a movie by the same guy who brought us the hilarious and action-packed "The Mummy" from a few years ago!
I just started watching "The Mummy" again on videotape, as I haven't seen it in awhile. Just as entertaining as it was a few years ago!
If Van Helsing is anywhere near as good a movie, I'll enjoy it very much.
The only actors I will recognize in Van Helsing are David Wenham, who played Faramir in the Lord of the Rings, and Kate Beckinsale, who was a vampire in last year's Underworld (another of my favorite movies.)
I think we will try to check this movie out tomorrow night! Might be the last time we get to go to the cinema for awhile, since baby Derek is due to arrive sometime in the next few weeks. (He's not officially due until June 24, but babies have been known to arrive early...)

I hate spyware!

Recently, I've had a lot of trouble with "spyware" invading my computer. I hate spyware!

Back at the end of November, a particularly nasty piece of spyware installed itself on my work computer. I never opened any email attachment, and I never gave any program permission to install itself. However, the nasty "browser hijacker" installed itself without my permission. One of the guys here at the office had to remove it for me.
Now, I have a couple of spyware removal tools on my computer. These came in handy when a similar bunch of spyware suddenly appeared on my work computer last Friday. Once again, I hadn't installed anything or opened any attachments. Argh! I used both of the spyware removal tools, and removed the nasty things.
The first time I ran the scanners, I had to reboot my computer because some of the infected items were in the Registry. When I rebooted, a whole bunch more of the nasty spyware appeared. This time, I downloaded all of the updates for the removal tools and ran them again. At last, success! All of the spyware is now gone.
I will now scan my computer often for these insidious programs. They are a nuisance and if whoever writes them thinks I will actually buy or use a product featured in one of their pop-up ads, or on a website to which their program misdirects me, they are sadly mistaken. I will boycott them instead.
I am also following the advice of the guys here at the office. They say to not use Internet Explorer as a browser. They recommended the Mozilla browser, so I've been using that ever since.
