More Gypsy Horses
I really like these Gypsy Cobs!
After doing some research on this type of horse, I really think this will be the breed for me. I am awaiting the arrival of a DVD on the breed, I hope it will be interesting!
As it is almost midnight, I won't say more right now, but I do enjoy learning about this beautiful breed.
Derek had his nine-month checkup at the doctor's office today, and he was pronounced a healthy, happy baby boy! But we knew that already!

The Nance's Birthday

My sister's birthday is St. Patrick's Day, and here is how she celebrated!
Well, if you turn your computer monitor or your head sideways, you can see that the lunch ladies at her school have made her a special birthday treat! Happy birthday to the Nance! (I sent her some cookies and some stickers...and a card!)

A bit of Gypsy Magic!
Here are two stunning examples of the Gypsy Cob, a type of horse that used to pull Gypsy caravans across the U.K.
Now there are breed registries for this type of horse in both the U.S. and the U.K. At the recent stallion expo (last weekend) I was fortunate enough to be able to see Michigan's own Gypsy cob stallion, Fionn. My friend, Karin, is lucky enough to have been his trainer for the past few years! (In a future blog entry, I hope to post the photo I took of them with my new digital camera, yet another bargain that I hope actually works this time!)
I was invited to see Fionn's upcoming foals and to ride the horses myself! So I am looking forward to this very much!
They are located about an hour and a half away from my hometown, but that is just a small drive compared to the joy of being able to ride one of these gentle and lovely horses. They are just my size (about 14.2hh) This could be the horse for me! :)

The Perfect Horse for Me

This is a Fell Pony. They have an interesting history, reportedly have an excellent temperament and personality, are extremely hardy and healthy, and are just my size!
According to what I've read (I've never met a Fell Pony in person)they stand up to 13.2hh, which is a tad bit smaller than the 14hh I was looking for, but a lot closer to what I want than the 16 - 17hh Friesians.
I'm hoping to meet a Fell Pony soon, so I can see for myself what they are like.
They are from the north of England, where they were formed from the blending of the Friesian-type Roman warhorses with the native ponies of the area during the Roman occupation. Yes, this breed is that old, according to the sources I've read.
They have been used for riding and driving and pack ponies, and are very good at everything they do.
At last count, I read that there were about 100 of them in the U.S. There is even at least one of them in Michigan! Maybe I'll see one at the Stallion Expo next weekend.

My next horse will look like this!

This horse is a Friesian, but since Friesians mostly seem to stand around 16hh these days, I'll be very happy with a Fell or Dales pony (which are similar in type, but a lot smaller) or even a Gypsy cob (similar in type, smaller and piebald!)
Since I'm dreaming, I can have any horse I want. So, here is my dream horse: A horse of this type, around 14-15hh, solid black or piebald (black and white pinto) with a great disposition, well-trained, sensible, friendly, not too young nor too old, and I can afford him, too! (He's definitely a gelding, unless I have been blessed by the gods with abundant wealth and have decided to start a stud farm!)
I'm sure that there is the perfect Friesian, Fell, Dales or Gypsy cob out there just waiting for me! When the time is right, he will materialize and be just perfect.
In the meantime, I'm still looking for the perfect job! I know that's out there, too, and I'm ready for that to materialize right now!
