A Splendid Beach Party
Here are Ryan and Danielle at Saturday's end-of-summer beach bash. It was loads of fun!
Derek and I were able to attend, but Brian had to go to a bachelor party instead. The evening started out with a boat ride across the lake from the parking area to Ryan's parents' house. Derek wore his tiny life vest so that he would be sure to survive the two-minute voyage!
Tim and Sue, Ryan's parents, had cooked up a huge feast of hamburgers and 40 pounds of gigantic king crab legs! (Danielle gave some of hers to Derek, and he liked it!)
Uncle Don and Aunt Amy showed up, too, and Amy, Danielle and I spent a lot of time chasing around after Derek, who really wanted to play football with the older kids. After four hours, Derek was still running around with no signs of slowing down! He finally became tired around 8:30 p.m.
It was a very enjoyable evening, and a great time was had by all! (Special thanks to Amy, who emailed me this photo from my phone-I had never been able to figure out how to do that!)

A Horse in My Future?
It might be true!
Recently, we took my brother out to dinner for his birthday, and during the conversation, he asked me if I still had any horses. "No," I told him, "I sold them. They are too expensive!"
Well, they ARE expensive, and I did sell them a few years ago, but I of course wanted to get another one "someday" and I looked wistfully at the horsies that I saw in the pastures I passed in my travels with the Jeep.
I went to "just look" at a horse that was advertised in the paper, thinking it was safe because there was no possible way that the horse would match up with my stringent requirements. I love horses, but most of them aren't ones I'd like to actually own.
To my surprise, the horse fit my requirements. He's small (14hh-everyone these days wants them "HUGE" and "TALL" but I want them to be "puny" and "small!")
He's middle-aged, and is an Arabian, like most of my other horses have been.
He's gentle and friendly.
And I found an affordable place to board him, with people who like to go trail riding.
I haven't actually bought the horse, because he needs to have a vet test him for EIA first.
Just call me the crazy horse lady!

The Latest Happenings
Well, I've been sick for several days...but I'm better, now. Mostly!
I shook off my dusty ministerial robe and went back to work this past weekend, officiating at the wedding of a couple of people I know from the jaycees. They had asked me, "This is a weird question, but since your email address begins with "rev" we thought we would ask if you might be a minister." The answer is Yes, I am an ordained minister, so they asked me to officiate at their ceremony. I had not performed a wedding since about 2000, first due to a hectic work schedule and then due to the wedding, move, pregnancy and birth that seemed to all come so closely right behind each other. Plus, being a Mom is definitely a full time job. But we definitely need to augment our income, and I enjoy doing weddings, so this is a great way for me to still remain a Mom and do some spiritual and helpful work on weekends.
Everything was right on track for the wedding this past weekend, when I had a sudden thought. Back at the church, we were taught to always have a backup minister lined up for our weddings in case of emergencies. One never knows. I have only seen one of our reverends have to use their backup minister one time. (The reverend in this case having suddenly found themself in the hospital.)
My problem was, no backup minister was available. Every minister I knew lived too far away, had developed medical problems severe enough to eliminate them as a possibility, or they had become extremely elderly in the past several years.
"Never mind," I thought, "Nothing will happen to me!"
I promptly became very sick, nothing could induce me to leave my bed or the couch except for Derek's needs. I had to call my doctor to get the name of a cold remedy that I could take. Brian brought it home for me that evening.
Well, I was worried, but I healed enough to be functional on the wedding day.
Ryan and Danielle came over to watch Derek so that I could go to the wedding. Brian went off to see the U of M get whomped by Notre Dame, and then we all went out to eat after we got home.
Thank you very much to Ryan and Danielle! And thanks to Brian for bringing me the cold medication!

Pixie Dust wins big over in England!

Pixie went to live in England awhile back, and has adapted so well that he's a winning show pony now!
My friend Amanda owns him, and she recently took him to a show and sent this photo of him with his spiffy red ribbon!
Pixie is surrounded by some extremely lovely Julips and Magpies in the photo-he stands out because he's the only Breyer in the picture!
(Whisper and Lucky will be thrilled to see that Fitzwood is in the photo, too!)
