Totally Tame Trail Ride!

jessdozer.jpg

Here is a photo of me on board "Dozer" at the Brighton Riding Stable-Amy took it with her cell phone!

This year's ride was very uneventful. Brian was probably a bit bored! He did get his wish of riding a huge warhorse, though-he rode "Tank," a very large Percheron gelding!
Amy's horse kept trying to run into Tank's rear end (Tank didn't care) and Mary's horse moseyed along verrrrry slowly in the rear of the procession.
I don't know much about what was going on at the head of the line because I couldn't see that far up, but we all arrived back at the stable unscathed.
At one point during the ride, the guide told us not to worry, there was a downed tree blocking the trail, but the horses would cross it just fine at a walk. My horse got up to it, and it would barely have qualified as a sapling, in my book! Some huge tree!!!
Quite a change from my college years spent galloping through the cross country course in Augusta!

A very horse-y weekend

Here is Kai at his new home (photo taken by Amy with her cell phone!)

We had a great trail ride (on the Brighton Riding Stable horses)on Saturday. I rode a chestnut horse named Dozer, Brian rode a Percheron named Tank, Amy rode an Appaloosa mare named Cinnamon, and Mary rode another Appaloosa mare named Dreamer. (I don't remember the names of the horses everyone else rode!)
Amy took a photo of me on Dozer, so I'll put that on the blog later. But I want to share this photo of Kai's very cute head. He is getting fuzzy now for the winter.
You can see that we are surrounding him (I'm holding the lead rope, and cousin Mary is standing in the background while Amanda and Kim are grooming Kai. Bob and Brian are around there somewhere, too.) Here is the World's Best Arabian stallion! Lots of people think that all Arabian horses are flighty and high-strung. Kai is very laid-back and calm. Nobody can believe that a stallion can be this calm and friendly. Kai is great!

Kai has arrived!

On Sunday, Knight Image (aka Kai) was transported to his new home!

Kai was a very well-behaved horse the whole time. He hadn't been in a trailer for probably ten years, and he walked right onto it. It was a big, six-horse slant load. We put about ten or twelve hay bales onto the trailer, as well-Kai's supply of hay from his old home. (His owner had dispersed her entire farm, and Kai was the last one to leave.)
He put on quite a show for the geldings in the next pasture when he arrived at his new farm. He pranced around, snorting for quite awhile. Today, they have all gotten used to each other, so he's back to being his normal, quiet self.
Today when I visited I just groomed him and talked to him, tomorrow I plan to lunge him and try my saddles on him to make sure that they fit him correctly.

This is the horse that is going to be my buddy.

He is called "Kai", which is pronounced "Ky." He is fourteen years old, and is a registered Arabian. He's very friendly and gentle. I was guessing that he was about 14 hands high, but I put a tape measure up to him (not as accurate as a measuring stick) and it said he was 14.2hh. I was surprised he was that tall!
He has a white star and a white left hind fetlock, and some slight roaning on his flanks and by his tail, but otherwise he is black.

The Horse is Almost Here...

Believe it or not, I actually found a safe, friendly, inexpensive place to board the horse, so he is scheduled to arrive next week at the new boarding stable.

I think it was meant to be! The horse is middle aged, slightly overweight, and lazy, and I am middle aged, slightly overweight and lazy-we will make a great team!
Stay tuned for photos of the horse...just as soon as I install the software for the digital camera.
Also stay tuned for a cute photo of Derek at the apple orchard!
