Balloonfest!
This is a photo of some of the balloons taking off at the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest last weekend. They were spectacular!

Very Brave Cat!
This is Bono-cat, the very brave cat who caught the bat that was flying around our bedroom at 4 a.m. a few days ago. He is fifteen years old, and is in very frail health. But apparently in good enough health to grab a bat out of the air! Thanks, my very brave kitty!

New Magpie Hunter
This palomino Magpie Hunter was on eBay recently, so I added it to my collection. I'm posting it here to share with my model-horse-collecting buddies. It's a fun hobby, and I'm holding an event for collectors in September.

Nose!
There is almost nothing as cute as a horse searching for a cookie or a scratch on the forehead. This is Kai's nose! He is very friendly and doesn't bite!

Kai in his stall
This is a photo I took yesterday of Kai in his stall. I was just about to groom him.

Attack of the Bat!
I live in an old, Victorian house and sometimes late at night we get visited by a bat. It hasn't happened in at least a year, but somehow at around 4 a.m. this morning I was awakened by the familiar fluttering noises...a bat!
Almost nothing is more scary to me than a bat flying around my bedroom (or any part of the house, for that matter.) Something about the way they fly, it just seems so erratic even though they must know where they are going, it looks as though they are going to head in one direction, then they are all of a sudden in your face. Aaaagh! Plus, bats carry rabies in our area, so it's doubly frightening.
I immediately called out the troops (my husband.) Amazingly, he woke up out of a sound sleep when I said, "There is a bat in the room!"
He went to get bat-hunting equipment while I cowered under the covers (yes, I'm that scared of bats!) He shut the door to our son's room so that the bat couldn't go in there.
Meanwhile, my cat was chasing the bat around the bedroom. This is a cat that was near death from kidney failure last week! He's fifteen years old and he was in such bad shape that I had taken him to the vets one last time expecting to have him put to sleep as I couldn't get him to eat and he was emaciated. We had decided at the vets to give him another try to see if we could perk up his appetite. I give him fluids once a day (down from twice a day) and feed him a special diet. Well, it must have worked because Bono-cat caught that bat in mid-flight. He had it down on the floor when Brian returned with the bat-gear.
"It's about time that cat earned his keep!" was Brian's remark.
I checked Bono carefully for any bite wounds and couldn't find any.
Brian got the bat away from Bono and made quite sure it was dead, poor thing.
I told Bono how brave he had been. I certainly wasn't!
Bono has been vaccinated against rabies, if anyone was wondering!

New Gypsy Vanner Foal
This is Clover, a brand new colt. My friend Karin sent this photo, she trains Gypsy Vanners and this little guy is by the stallion she rides. Vanners are fuzzy and cute!
Karin is hoping to be able to buy this little guy. His parents are both piebald (black and white) so the appearance of Clover came as a surprise! All of the stallion's foals so far have had black on them somewhere, except this one!

New Julip Stable Addition
I found this for sale on eBay, so I thought I'd expand my Julip stable area and add this field shelter. I intend to store all of my many accumulated tack and accessory items in here.
Soon to arrive will be a Magpie stable, all of the Magpie herd will be fighting over who gets to stay in it!
The Julip field shelter came with a black HOTY Arab (now I have a Julip Originals Kai, a Magpie Kai and now a Julip HOTY Kai, I guess!)
It also came with a whole slew of accessories, so all of my Julips will be well cared for as they now have a bag of feed and an extra pitchfork for sharing the manure-cleaning chores. (Previously, the doll riders had to take turns cleaning, as I had only one pitchfork!)
I love the little black rubber bucket that came along with this set. It's quite realistic.
