The Latest News

Well, there isn't any exciting news. Sorry about that! To read boring old news, carry on!

Brian still has no job. Well, not a paying job. He is Mr. Mom now on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday while I'm at work.
The lack of job prospects is taking a toll on him. There was a prospect over on the west side of the state, so we hopped in the car last weekend to check out the area. It was dismal, we had no desire to pack up and move there. The cost of moving would be too much for us to handle, and we'd lose our investment in our current house because of the failing housing market. He still is waiting on word from a couple of places that he has applied closer to home. Both positions are most likely less well compensated than his previous position was.
We of course lost our health insurance when Brian's position was eliminated, so have been crossing our fingers that none of us becomes ill or injured. Without health insurance, the cost of any medical care could be financially ruinous. I applied for a state-subsidized insurance program for Derek just in case.
Kai had been lame briefly in October, he hasn't shown any signs of lameness recently so that is good. He has been briefly stabled at the barn with the indoor arena so I have been able to ride a bit. He will return to his outdoor boarding facility later this week.
He did have a stall at the "red barn" (the outdoor board one)which he was able to use in bad weather. I had gotten it just the way I wanted it (I have to provide bedding and clean the stall myself.) Then I was told Kai would be transferred to another stall (one that I like much less.) I then filled *that* stall up with bedding, when he was moved again to the indoor barn. When I get back to the red barn I suspect that I will find Kai's new stall has been used in his absence and the bedding will be all gross. I will have to replace it all again I'm sure.
Derek is doing well, he had started biting his nails when he was still in day care. A couple of kids used to tease him and it really bothered him. Now that he's home his nails have returned to normal.
